Gorse Hill Studios is working with the Javaad Alipoor Company

Gorse Hill Studios is working with the Javaad Alipoor Company on The Last Vote, a brand-new play by playwright Isabella Leung, which will be performed as part of the Festival of Democracy at Contact, Manchester on 13–14 March 2027.
Set in the fictional town of Nowhere, the government has announced that its people are about to vote for the very last time. As the town celebrates the end of having to make decisions for themselves, events begin to reveal a much darker reality.
Funny, bold and unsettling, The Last Vote explores democracy, power, protest, freedom, language and identity.

How to Get involved?

We’re looking for young people aged 15–25 to join our young company and bring The Last Vote to life.

You’ll rehearse on Sundays, 1:30–5:30pm, at Gorse Hill Studios from December, working with our in-house theatre director and producer, George, who will direct the production with support from The Javaad Alipoor Company. You’ll develop your performance and theatre-making skills and help bring a new piece of work to the stage.

You don’t need professional acting experience. We’re interested in people who are excited about performing, creating work together and exploring the ideas at the heart of the play.

The opportunity is open to everyone aged 15–25. Cantonese language and cultural identity play an important role within The Last Vote, so we would particularly love to hear from young people from Hong Kong and Cantonese-speaking young people who are interested in taking part.

Participation in the project is free.
